Introduction to Kum Ye Do
KUM YE DO" :
KUMYEDO is a
sword martial art practiced in ancient KOREA by the
SAMURANG
or SAAURABI WARRIORS
from
GOGURYO DYANSTY who later
played a role in the creation of the Japanese SAMURAI.
1500 Years Ago, there were
three kingdoms in Korea. These kingdoms fought
amongst each other and over time each developed their
own style of martial arts. KumYeDo combines the
two styles from that time frame. Korean
swordsmanship along with sword dancing.
Kum Ye Do emphasizes
concentration, power, and self-control. It is a very
safe martial arts since training is done with a bamboo
or wooden practice sword. Precise control over ones
body is essential to achieve Ki Kum Che, or "spirit,
sword and body acting as one," when striking with the
sword.
Kum Ye Do is both a physically and
mentally demanding martial art. Concentration is
absolute, conscious thought is suppressed, and action is
instinctive. Such training develops the power of
resolution and endurance under pressure, which
frequently affects the Kum Ye Do student's lives beyond
the confines of the training hall.
The mental training teaches you that there is no winner or loser. You rise above that way of thinking.
